SUMMARY:Making Our Own Road Learning Expo
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 2 November 2019\n8.30am – 1pm \nShare and celebrate the learning from EChO’s “Re-imagining Childhood Project 2018-19” \nAs a response to being a partner in Carla Rinaldi’s Residency in SA\, EChO initiated a two-year professional learning project\, which aims to explore how the principles of the Reggio Emilia educational project can be interpreted for\, and enrich\, our SA learning context. Through their participation in the project\, learning teams are invited to see themselves as researchers of childhood\, learning and their personal pedagogies. \nThey question\, reflect\, celebrate\, ponder\, debate and grow in collaboration with each other and their EChO critical friend. \nDuring the two-year cycle of professional learning\, there are many moments of ‘wonderful uneasiness’ through which philosophies and personal theories about a South Australian childhood\, children’s learning processes and our pedagogy are strengthened. \nYou are invited to listen to the stories of growth and renewal in this EXPO style learning experience – each of the stories is different and unique. You will have the opportunity to read and view examples of learning and artifacts\, as well as the chance to talk with the educators about their thinking. \nVenue:\nSt Andrew’s School Hall - 22 Smith St\, Walkerville\nExhibition will be held in the St Andrew’s\nSchool Hall. Parking available on Church St \n\nSPEAKERS\nJAN MILLIKAN OAM\nJan is the highly-respected founder of the Reggio Emilia Australia Information Exchange. She is the REAIE Liaison with the Reggio Children International Network\, and Founder and former Director of REAIE. Her particular educational interest in children 2- 8 years of age has involved teaching in Australia\, UK\, Singapore and Canada. Jan is the author of Reflections: Reggio Emilia Principles within Australian Contexts and\, alongside Stefania Giamminuti\, Documentation and the EYLF: researching in Reggio Emilia and Australia. \nTalk: The Road Built Between Australia & Reggio Emilia \nJan will share her perspective on the story of Australia’s connection with the educational project in Reggio Emilia\, one she has been closely involved with since it’s inception. She will also close our conference with her reflections on the EXPO and EChO’s Reimagining Childhood Project. \nJILL MCLACHLAN\nJill (Education Director of Blue Gum Early Childhood School\, Sydney) is a self-confessed wondering addict\, with her feet anchored in hope and her gaze fixed on the possible. Her delight as an educator is to make children’s learning visible and in doing so to disrupt limiting beliefs about childhood and heighten people’s expectations of what children can think\, do\, be\, and bring to others. In her work as The Curious Teacher\, Jill’s thinking cuts against the grain of the status quo\, inviting educators to dig deep and reflect on what drives their practice. Her stories help teachers to see how they can challenge dominant and power-based approaches to education and how together we might bravely re-imagine what it can mean to teach and learn alongside children. She is a highly regarded and influential Australian author; best known for ‘Unearthing Why’.\n \nTalk: Unearthing Why: Re-imagining the Child / Re-imagining Ourselves\nThis session will explore the connections between the images we hold\, and the potential that these images and imaginings have in opening up possibilities for pedagogy in practice. How can we re-imagine our practice and make room for new ways of doing and being? And how can we position what we value as filters through which we make pedagogical decisions and relate to children? What potential might these imaginings of children and childhood offer in transforming our image of ourselves as educators\, and our teaching in practice? \nDANNIELLE GIBSON\nDannielle was honoured to represent EChO at the Partners table of the Rinaldi Residency – Re-imagining Childhood\, where she had the opportunity to work closely with Carla Rinaldi from Reggio Emilia. Dannielle is passionate about creating learning environments and experiences that offer all children the opportunity to shine. She believes that in working with the competent child\, educators also work from a competent view of the parent in order to truly collaborate. \nTalk: The Story of the Quilt – A Story of Friendship PROGRAM\nThe logo for the South Australian Collaborative Childhood Project is well known to early childhood educators in our state\, what is less known is the story behind this image. The children of Alberton Preschool inquired into ‘friendship and beautiful’ as concepts over six months. Their co-construction of visual representations of their thinking became a quilt that  was gifted to Carla Rinaldi during the Reimagining Childhood residency. Dannielle will share the story of the quilt\, the thinking of the children and considerations of the educators in regards to ethics\, rights and responsibilities when working with young children. \n\nPROGRAM\n8:30am – Registrations\n9.00am – Welcome (Natalie Jonas)\n9.05am – Context of Project (Lisa Burman)\n9:10am – Jan Millikan – The Road Built between Australia and Reggio Emilia\n9:30 am – Dannielle Gibson – The Story of the Quilt\n10:00am – Exhibits\, discussing\, morning tea & networking\n12:00 pm – Jill McLachlan\n12:45pm – Closing  – Jan Millikan\n1.00pm – Close of EXPO \n\nREGISTER NOW!\n
